COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Roy White has been appointed vice president of education, and executive director for the educational foundation of the General Merchandise Distributors Council here.

ally brought on board to broaden the scope of the educational foundation's offerings to GMDC members and to provide a focus to grow the foundation's activities," said Richard W. Tilton, the GMDC's president and the foundation's secretary/treasurer. White reports to Tilton.

According to Tilton, White's appointment is also part of the GMDC's long-term plan to strengthen the association "and extend its reach into new areas."

White was most recently chairman and editorial director of the Perspectives Group, New York, a print and video publisher specializing in the health and beauty care, pharmaceutical and general merchandise industries.

"I see this new position at GMDC as a tremendous opportunity to accomplish a great deal," he commented. "GMDC's board and the general merchandise and health and beauty care supplier advisory boards want GMDC to become a thought-leader in our industry, and I will direct my energies to achieving that."

In his new role with the GMDC, White is acting as industry affairs liaison to improve the level of contact between the association and its members, associate members, the trade press and allied trade associations in the Eastern United States.

The GMDC foundation was created five years ago to provide its membership with a vehicle to develop educational materials.
