Boxed words asked the question, "Why buy fresh?" and offered answers that included "Fresh is more convenient!", "Fresh is better tasting!" and "Fresh is all natural!".

On the back page of the ad, many of the fruits and vegetables that formed the turkey were promoted, along with a selection of meats.

Meats were highlighted on the top half of the page. "The best meats for your Thanksgiving feast," read the headline. Grade A basted turkey was on ad for 59 cents a pound, while Perdue-brand premium turkey retailed at 99 cents a pound and Butterball fresh turkey was $1.19 a pound.

Alternatives to turkey also were available, including a rib roast at $3.29 a pound, leg of lamb at $2.99 a pound and dressed goose at $2.49 a pound.
