SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. Co. has released a high-end line of frozen appetizers, entrees and desserts under the On The Go Bistro name.

"Our customers were telling us that they wanted meal and party solutions that were quick, convenient and tasty," Mark Doiron, senior vice president of the 122-store chain, said in a statement. "We decided there was a terrific opportunity to provide high-end frozen products that no one else in the market was offering."

Hannaford, a division of Delhaize America, joins Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons among supermarket chains in releasing premium private-label frozen entrees. The latter last year introduced a line called Essentia.

On The Go Bistro features 120 different meat, pasta and seafood entrees as well as hors d'oeuvres and desserts. The line is produced by 32 different vendors. A spokeswoman would only say they were introduced beginning in mid-November.

Prices for On The Go Bistro items featured in a recent Hannaford sales circular ranged from $11.99 for a 24-ounce Cranberry & Sage Carving Roast to $1.99 for an 8-ounce package of "Mini Petite-Zas," a pizza appetizer.

Other featured items included 32-ounce Stuffed Pork Chops ($9.99); 35-ounce Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo ($6.49); 15-ounce Milk Chocolate Mousse Cake ($6.49); 32-ounce Chicken Wings ($7.99); 15-ounce Crab Rangoons ($6.49); and 10-ounce Asian Shrimp Trio ($6.49).
