SCARBOROUGH, Maine -- Hannaford Bros. here reported sales and net earnings gains for the second quarter and first half ended June 29.
to $19.5 million from $19 million last year. Same-store sales were up 2.8%.
For the 26-week half, sales climbed 15.1% to $1.4 billion from $1.2 billion a year before. Net earnings rose 1.8% to $34.2 million from $33.6 million. Same-store sales increased 3.3% in the six months.
"We are pleased with our second-quarter and half-year results, which are in line with our expectations and consistent with projections," according to Hugh G. Farrington, president and chief executive officer. Gross margins were up in the quarter and half, he noted.
