HARRIS TEETER'S THIRD-QUARTER VOLUME RISES

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Ruddick Corp., parent company of Harris Teeter here, announced consolidated sales of $579.7 million in the third quarter ended June 29, an 8.8% increase over $532.6 million reported in the year-ago quarter. Net income of $13.1 million, or 28 cents per share, was down 3.7% compared with net income of $13.6 million, or 29 cents per share, reported last year.
