HARRY'S SALES UP OVERALL DESPITE SAME-STORE DIP

ROSEWELL, Ga. -- Harry's Farmers Market here said sales rose 2.2% to $35.2 million in the 13-week quarter ended Aug. 4.

8.8% same-store sales decline in the quarter.

However, a company spokesman said same-store sales improved in the period and have continued to improve since Aug. 4. "We are not at par yet, but we aren't that far away." Even during the second quarter, same-store sales were improving, he said, pointing out that for the first half, the decline was 9.5%.

Also in the second quarter, the company's net loss was $194,000. Net loss per share was 3 cents per share.

Operating income was $180,000 for the quarter.

Specializing in perishable food products, ready-to-heat prepared foods and gourmet nonperishables, Harry's owns and operates three megastores and five Harry's In A Hurry convenience stores in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
