BOSTON -- Gillette Co. here has keyed into the popularity for aromatherapy and natural products, with the launch this month of its White Rain Herbs & Blossoms.

aptured by what the company refers to as "head-space analysis."

According to Gillette, this advanced technology is used in many of the world's finest fragrances, including Calvin Klein's Eternity, Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds and Lancome's Tresor. Head-space analysis involves covering a living flower with a glass bulb connected to an air pump and filter. The chemically lined filter collects the aroma molecules emitted by the flower. The chemicals inside the filter are analyzed for the type and percentage of aroma molecules. The chemists can determine exactly which ingredients contribute to the unique scent of each flower. They then rebuild the scent using synthetics with the same molecular configuration. The eight-product line of shampoos, conditioners and hair sprays includes three fragrances -- Jasmine, Passion Flower and Ginger Lily. The hair sprays come in mixed floral fragrances including Chamomile and Angelica. Herbs & Blossoms is priced at a suggested retail of $1.09 to $1.39. Packaging is translucent to reflect the line's positioning as natural-type products.
