WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Edgewater Technology here said last week operation of an on-line grocery shopping site it hosts, HomeRuns.com, Burlington, Mass., continued uninterrupted despite Edgewater's offices here being closed for a week following the horrific shootings of seven employees on Dec. 26.

Edgewater, a computer software and services firm, shut its Wakefield offices after a disgruntled employee, Michael McDermott, allegedly shot and killed seven co-workers because he was upset his salary was about to be garnished by the IRS to pay for back taxes owed, authorities said.

Jason Ouellette, spokesman for Edgewater, said while the company's Wakefield offices were closed until Jan. 2, a regional office in Hopkins, Minn., where the HomeRuns.com Web site is hosted, remained open.

"I can say right now that no service [for HomeRuns.com] has been interrupted," Ouellette said. "We have not been discussing individual clients, though. We are focusing on the company as a whole and the tragedy that happened."

Officials for HomeRun.com could not be reached for comment.

In April, Edgewater had said it would take part in a collaborative project to upgrade the HomeRuns.com Web site, according to Ouellette.

"We were involved in developing it, the design, back-end stuff," Ouellette said.

The upgraded site, hosted in one of Edgewater's regional offices in Hopkins, Minn., was launched in August.

Edgewater has other regional offices in Greensboro, N.C.; Little Rock, Ark.; and Birmingham, Ala., Ouellette said.

"The regional offices remained open [in the aftermath of the shooting]," Ouellette said.
