To the Editor:
uge new liability issue for the supermarket industry to consider with respect to contaminated food product [SN, Feb. 8, 1999, Page 31 and other news articles]. The problem is there are still a lot of [contaminated] hot dogs out there in peoples' freezers. And, unlike past practices, [retailers] can no longer pass liability on to suppliers.
Here's why: Every time I buy something at the supermarket I give my preferred customer card. So somewhere in retailers' data banks [is recorded the names of those] who bought hot dogs. Unless supermarkets start notifying everyone who bought hot dogs, it is going to be hog heaven for personal-injury lawyers.
