Meanwhile, in North Carolina, one local report said Harris Teeter, Charlotte, N.C., dispatched staff and managers from corporate headquarters to bag groceries at a local Harris Teeter supermarket that was crowded with shoppers buying last-minute supplies at 2:30 a.m. last Wednesday, before the storm arrived. A Harris Teeter spokeswoman told a local newspaper that pre-storm shopping started Monday, with the most popular items including bread, milk, canned goods, toilet paper, water and batteries.
