VERTICALNET, Horsham, Pa., has named the former president of Amazon.com, Joe Galli, as its president and chief executive officer. He succeeds Mark Walsh, who was appointed chairman of VerticalNet. Galli will be responsible for the company's growth and integration plans, while Walsh focuses on overall strategy. VerticalNet owns and operates 57 industry-specific Web sites designed as business-to-business communities. Jeff Bezos, chairman and CEO, will re-claim the title of president, which he relinquished when Galli joined Amazon.com a little over a year ago. VerticalNet also announced 95% revenue growth for its second fiscal quarter, ended June 30, over its first quarter. This revenue increase was 1,408% over the second quarter of 1999.

TRADINGPRODUCE.COM, Livermore, Calif., has named Juan C. Batista vice president, produce products division. Batista recently served as executive director of the Agribusiness Institute at Mississippi State University, and co-founded the Triad Group, which trades dried fruits, nuts and other perishable food products internationally. He is currently an active member of advisory committees on fruits and vegetables for the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, the U.S. Trade Representative and the U.S. Department of Commerce's District Export Council. Batista will be based in the company's Monterey Bay, Calif., area office.
