MADISON, Wis. -- The annual seminar and exposition of the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association is bursting at the seams. Exhibit sales have been so successful, according to Carol Christison, IDDA executive director, that convention floor space was sold out six months prior to the show, scheduled for June 5 to 7 in Baltimore. The exhibit floor will feature 530 booths, and several companies are still on a waiting list in hopes that others will drop out and free up some space. Convention registrations also are well ahead of last year. Attendance could top 5,000, breaking last year's record of just over 4,000, Christison said. But she's quick to add that "any retail buyer can see new products without ever leaving his office. They don't need to come to a trade show. It's the programing that brings them to this show. "Our seminar program is one of the strengths that we're known for."

Tom Brewer, IDDA board president agrees. "It's an outstanding line up," said the vice president of deli-bakery merchandising for Price Chopper Supermarkets, Schenectady, N.Y. Scheduled are some 25 workshops and presentations that will help registrants respond to three of the top issues facing the dairy, deli and bakery industries: labor training, delivering quality service, and rapid industry and consumer changes, said Brewer. In addition to the seminars, special events are planned for the exhibit show floor including a Retail Merchandising Contest, in which teams of retail merchandisers will be assigned to 28 feet of cases and given product and equipment to set up displays.
