CHICAGO -- IGA here said last week it has split the alliance into three operating units as part of a major corporate restructuring designed to provide better service to retailers worldwide.

obal expansion efforts (IGA licenses 1,200 international stores); and IGA University, Singapore, a training program launched in 1992 in partnership with Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta, which shares food-distribution knowledge with retailers and distributors.

Thomas S. Haggai, chairman and chief executive officer of IGA Inc., will be the chairman of each of the three units, as well as president and CEO of IGA International. Larry Willis, president and chief financial officer of IGA, will be president and chief operating officer of IGA USA, and Roger Romrell will continue as president of IGA University.

According to Haggai, the new structure will mean "that customers of each and every IGA store -- from Lacrosse, Wis., to Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Jakarta, Indonesia -- will be better served according to their individual needs and local tastes."
