LA VERGNE, Tenn. -- David Ingram last week was named president of Ingram Entertainment here, the largest video distributor in the United States. Ingram was vice president of major accounts/special markets and was in charge of the company's aggressive supermarket video program. He succeeds John Taylor, who held the titles of president and chief executive officer, and who has left the company. Ingram executives would not comment on his departure.
Ingram will report to Philip M. Pfeffer, chairman and chief executive officer of Ingram Distribution Group, who is also chairman of Ingram Entertainment. Pfeffer will now also serve as chief executive officer of Ingram Entertainment. "We hope to continue strong sales growth while remaining attentive to margin preservation and expense control. This is to be our focus," said Ingram. "Our mission is to continue our role as the preeminent distributor of entertainment products in our industry, which we have attained through our commitment to our customers," he said. "The key to our success in the past, as in the future, is all the professional people working for the Ingram organization. We have a strong foundation to build on, which John Taylor helped put in place. Everyone at Ingram thanks him for his contributions to our success and we all wish him the best of luck in his future pursuits," said Ingram. Ingram is a privately held business, primarily owned by the Ingram family. David Ingram is the son of E. Bronson Ingram, chairman of Ingram Industries, a holding company that includes the distribution businesses, as well as barge shipping, oil field equipment manufacturing and insurance companies.
Ingram Entertainment is a division of Ingram Distribution Group. Among the products handled by the group are videos, video games, audio books, music cassettes and compact discs,
computer hardware and software, trade books, text books and periodicals. David Ingram joined Ingram Industries in 1989 as assistant to the treasurer. He became assistant vice president of sales of Ingram Entertainment in 1992 and was named vice president of major accounts/special markets in 1993. Ingram Entertainment also announced that Bob Webb was named senior vice president of purchasing and operations. He had been vice president of purchasing and operations. Webb reports to David Ingram, along with Vern Fross, senior vice president of sales and marketing; Donnie Daniel, vice president and chief financial officer; Margaret Napier, vice president of human resources, and Mark Ramer, vice president of management information services. Ray Capp, president of Ingram Merchandising Services, will report to Pfeffer.
