CINCINNATI -- Super-markets are responding to consumers' love of freshly baked bread with increas-ingly big and attractive ads listing new varieties. Kroger Co. recently ran a full-page ad listing 12 varieties of Ecce Panis brand artisan breads, and ShopRite, part of Wakefern Food Corp., Elizabeth, N.J., took up a full third of its half-page bakery ad to introduce a new variety -- sourdough -- in its "Hot Stuff!" cycle baking program. The Kroger ad marked the rollout of the branded bread in its home-base division here. ShopRite's ad points out that its breads now are available hot from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the week.
