To the Editor:

e again consumers are enticed by commercials run by various restaurant chains describing eating as joyful, fun and exciting. When will [the supermarket industry] employ restaurants' ad agencies to give our industry similar pizzazz?

How? It costs me a minimum of $60 for a family of four to eat at a [chain] restaurant. I can easily provide a similar meal at home for $10 to $15. Why not relate this to consumers? Why not [air commercials showing] a dad with a child in tow picking out steaks or chops [in a supermarket]? Then, the shot could switch to dad grilling, mom tossing a salad and kids setting the table.

We can win customers back and, at the same time, promote family values. Since families are our best customers, we must fight fire with fire or continue to get burned by the restaurant industry.
