JACKSON, Miss. -- Jitney Jungle Stores of America here said sales increased for the third quarter and 36 weeks ended Jan. 4, while it had a net loss for the quarter and lower earnings for the year to date.
279.9 million and 1.3% for the 36 weeks to $832.9 million, while same-store sales declined 1.4% during the quarter and 0.7% for the year to date.
Jitney Jungle said earnings before interest, taxes, last-in-first-out provision, depreciation and amortization rose 1.3% for the quarter to $15.5 million and 13% for the nine months to $47.1 million.
Roger P. Friou, president, said sales trends in the current quarter for the company "are very strong, and we are pleased that our EBITDA for the third quarter increased over the prior year, despite the shorter holiday season."
