COLUMBIA, Md. -- Two food-service distribution giants, JP Foodservice, based here, and Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-based Rykoff-Sexton, plan to merge to become the nation's second-largest food-service distributor. executive officer, who will serve as chairman and CEO of the new company. Mark Van Stekelenburg, currently chairman and CEO of Rykoff, will become vice chairman and president of the new company. All operating units of the newly combined company will do business as U.S. Foodservice.
