The promotion ran in June and July, and was teamed with 5-for-$5 promotions on select store brands.

"The Food City Fab Five Recipe Challenge was a huge success," said Steve Smith, Food City's president and chief executive officer. "It gave our customers a chance to win some great prizes and enjoy additional savings on our top-quality store-brand products."

Patty Hawkins of Johnson City received the $5,000 grand prize based on her recipe for New Orleans Style Catfish with Cream Shrimp Sauce.

"I am so excited," Hawkins said. "I'm going to shop Food City forever."

Hawkins was among 92 winners selected at random to receive $100 in Food City Gift Cards and entry into the next level of competition. Five finalists were then named based upon the proper usage of five or more participating ingredients and the overall appeal of their recipes.

The finalists traveled to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center here on July 27 to prepare their dishes for judging by an independent panel.

The four other finalists received $500 for their recipes for Sausage Pinwheels, Salsa Pepper Chicken over Jasmine Rice, Tail Gators and Konnarock Tornado Cake.

"Our sweepstakes are just one of the many exciting benefits Food City offers to our customers," said Tom Hembree, senior vice president of marketing. "They really enjoy them and it creates an enormous amount of excitement in the stores."
