Food Lion has consolidated the inventory from the Kash n' Karry distribution center in Tampa into its existing facility in Plant City, Fla.

Ahearn said 259 of the 396 people employed at the Kash n' Karry distribution center in Tampa have been reassigned to the Food Lion facility in Plant City, while another 85 warehouse people opted for severance packages. She said an additional 52 people remain at the Tampa facility, which is being used as an overflow warehouse prior to a scheduled closing later this month.

Those 52 employees have been offered jobs at the Plant City warehouse or the Kash n' Karry stores, Ahearn said; anyone who chooses not to accept one of those positions will receive severance packages, she noted.

Another 200 accounting or administrative personnel who worked at Kash n' Karry's headquarters were offered store-level positions or severance packages earlier in the summer, she added, although she said she was unsure how many had opted to remain with the company.

"There are still a handful of people working at the Kash n' Karry offices who have been told their jobs will be eliminated later in September," Ahearn said, "and all of them have been offered positions at the stores or severance packages."

Of 10 buyers employed by Kash n' Karry, four have moved here to work for the parent company, while three produce buyers will continue to work in Florida, Ahearn said; the other three people have accepted severance packages.
