Katherine Albertson, widow of Joe Albertson, founder of the 2,500-store Albertson's chain, stands next to a picture of her husband this month at the just-remodeled Store No. 1 in Boise, Idaho. Opened in 1939, the store was enlarged in the 1980s. It now features an assortment of Albertson's departments and services, plus historical photographs and vintage graphics reflecting the history of Boise and of the company. The graphics include words of wisdom from Joe Albertson etched into the walls. Samples: "Anyone can sell a can of beans, but we want to sell good service," and "The tracks you make today will be the road tomorrow."
