Management and unions are facing a big roster of labor contract expirations this year. Here's a rundown of contract expirations that several major operators will confront in negotiations with the retail clerks and meatcutters of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union:
fornia; March 18 in Arizona; March 31 in Vancouver, British Columbia; May 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba; June 16 in Wyoming; July 22 in northern Nevada; July 29 in Salem, Ore., and Oct. 1 in Yakima, Wash. Safeway will also bargain with the Teamsters on contracts that expire April 15 in Clackamas, Ore.; May 6 in northern California; June 1 in Spokane, Wash.; Aug. 6 in Bellingham, Wash., and Sept. 13 in Spokane, Wash.
Albertson's, Boise, Idaho: will face contract expirations in northern California March 4; Seattle-Tacoma May 3; northern Nevada July 22; Salem, Ore., July 29, and Yakima, Wash., Oct. 1.
Other major contracts will expire March 4 at National Supermarkets and Schnuck Markets in St. Louis; March 11 at Grand Union in metropolitan New York; Sept. 10 for retailers in Las Vegas; Sept. 23 for Meijer in Michigan; Sept. 27 for Jewel Food Stores in Chicago, and Sept. 30 for A&P in metropolitan New York.
