The alliance wanted to create an image that was contemporary and fresh while expressing the importance of networking and education as its core aims, officials said.

"This completes our evolution from NEDDA to NEFFA and properly positions us for the new millennium," said Andrea Walker, NEFFA executive director. The 20-year-old organization was known until last year as NEDDA or the New England Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association. The trade group changed its name last year "to more accurately reflect what we're doing," Walker said at that time. She cited changes in the industry that have broadened the once narrowly defined fresh-food categories. She also pointed to the organization's widening membership, which stretches far beyond the borders of New England.
