INDIANAPOLIS -- Marsh Supermarkets here said sales and earnings were up for the third quarter ended Jan. 4, but it had a loss on increased sales for the year to date.
write-off for changes in tax laws resulted in a loss of $2.4 million for the 40-week period, compared with net income of $7.2 million a year ago, while sales rose 4.5% to $1.1 billion for the year to date and same-store sales were up 0.4%.
Marsh operates 74 Marsh and 14 Lo Bill supermarkets and 182 Village Pantry convenience stores in central Indiana and western Ohio.
The company also operates Convenience Store Distributing Co., a wholesale distributor serving 1,610 stores in nine states.
Marsh also operates Crystal Food Services, a catering, cafeteria management, vending and concession business.
