MESA, Ariz. -- Megafoods Stores here is beginning a chainwide installation of an electronic marketing system.

The 70-store chain will outfit its Phoenix and San Antonio stores with Advanced Promotion Technologies' Vision Value Network, which features a customer-interactive color terminal that delivers promotional messages, product discounts and financial services.

Meanwhile, Dahl's Food Markets, a 14-store chain based in Des Moines, Iowa, has completed a chainwide rollout of an electronic marketing system. "This system is exciting and seems to have a good feel to our customers," said Ken Stroud, Dahl's president. "You have to appreciate that we are very concerned about our customers," he said. "We don't advertise. We can't tell them how great we are in the newspaper. So finding an integrated system that would not offend our customers was a true challenge."

In a related move, Kroger Co., Cincinnati, which is now testing the Vision Value Network in seven stores, will bring another store on-line in the Huntsville, Ala., market, according to APT.

APT, Pompano Beach, Fla., also announced that one additional supermarket chain will install the system, and three other retailers have signed letters of intent. All the retailers requested anonymity.
