NAPLES, Fla. -- Melvin W. Alldredge, former chairman and chief executive officer of A&P, Montvale, N.J., died here at the age of 86.

In retirement, Alldredge was chairman of the Moorings Park Presbyterian Committee here, where he helped form the Moorings Park Retirement Complex.
Alldredge was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Elizabeth. He is survived by his sons, Melvin C. Alldredge and S. Craig Alldredge; his daughters, Dr. Beverly A. Collier and Shirley M. Gerdenich; and by 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
