MIAMI - Despite a public perception otherwise, there's a lot more going on in the pharmacy business these days than enrolling people in the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit. Retailers and other industry executives attending this month's Supermarket Pharmacy Conference of the Food Marketing Institute, Washington, were briefed on food and health, pharmacy technology, radio frequency identification, Medicare and Medication Therapy Management, in-store health clinics, 90-day prescriptions for retailers, and lessons from Hurricane Katrina for future disasters. In addition, retailers met individually with suppliers, and socialized with other participants at a number of receptions in the warm Florida evenings.
