DAYTON, Ohio -- NCR here will incorporate Mountain View, Calif.-based Sun Microsystems' Solaris Unix operating system into its next generation of servers, enabling retailers to build bigger and more powerful data warehouses and take advantage of Java-based web development tools.
o a 64-bit operating system. It was a matter of choosing the technology partner we thought would best meet our customer demands," said Bill Eisenman, senior vice president at NCR's computer systems group.
"Sun is committed to expanding the use of Solaris on the Intel platform," said Scott NcNealy, chief executive officer of Sun Microsystems. "I see this as a natural, very complementary partnership for the two companies. The value-added and integration services that NCR offers are just not available from Sun. For our part, all of our efforts are focused on this distributed technology."
