New elements for the 2002 show will include:

One combined area for processed foods, bringing together the delicatessen, preserved products and deep frozen-foods sectors into one large area in Hall 5.

The Tea Trail: a tea pavilion in the heart of the grocery section in Hall 5B, devoted to the world's second-most-popular, nonalcoholic beverage. Approximately 40 exhibitors, including tea and herbal tea suppliers, have already confirmed their participation.

New national pavilions from countries such as Columbia and the Ukraine will join "major" food countries such as Italy, Spain and the United States.

The SIAL show will also have several programs designed to shine the spotlight on new food products. A panel of experts will review products introduced since the last SIAL show, in October 2000. The selected products will be on display in the Trends & Innovations Area in Hall 6. A separate Trends & Innovations reference book will be available at the show.

In addition, the SIAL D'Or Awards, which honor new, innovative and commercially successful products from around the world, will be presented in a ceremony on Monday, Oct. 21. These awards are chosen by an international jury of grocery industry trade magazines, with SN representing the United States. This year, a U.S. product, StarKist Tuna in a Pouch, was a winner in the Fish & Seafood category, and is a contender for the Golden SIAL D'Or, which is chosen from among all the category winners and will be announced at the Oct. 21 ceremony.

The SIAL show will also include significant U.S. representation in the exhibit hall. This show's USA Pavilion, located in Hall 3, will include more than 100 exhibitors, including Chiquita Processed Foods, Swift & Co. (ConAgra), Snyder's of Hanover, Sun-Maid Growers of California, The Hain Celestial Group and Tyson Foods.

Extensive information about the SIAL trade show is available at the organization's Web site, www.sial.fr. In addition, a site dedicated exclusively to exhibitors' needs, www.sialservices.com, launched in May.
