SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- Village Super Market here said last week sales growth in the second quarter ended Jan. 24 was fueled by increased sales from two stores opened in fiscal 2002 and several other stores remodeled in fiscal 2003.
ed that this comparative decline was the result of $967,000 in after-tax income received from two partnerships by Village in second-quarter 2003. Excluding the partnership income, net income in the quarter would have increased 19%.
In the 26-week first half, sales increased 4.1% to $468.9 million, and same-store sales grew 4.1%, but net income declined 4.6% to $6.2 million, and earnings per share were $1.96, vs. $2.06 in the previous year's first half. Excluding the partnership income from second-quarter 2003, net income in the half would have increased 12%.
