a member of the Wakefern Food Cooperative, which operates 22 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, said a new store in West Orange, N.J., helped boost sales to $198 million, up from $191.3 million. Not including the new store sales were up 2.6%. Net income of $2.2 million, up 9% from $2.0 million, increased as a result of lower operating costs as a percentage of sales and a lower tax rate.

Village President Perry Sumas said that it was unclear how the recent actions of Big V Supermarkets, a Florida, N.Y.-based Wakefern member, would impact Village. Big V recently filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 and announced intentions to depart the Wakefern cooperative.
