NEW YORK -- A large variety of groceries are available at a new Kmart that opened on 34th Street in Manhattan this month.
ucts include Heinz Tomato Ketchup, $1.69 for a 28-ounce plastic bottle; Chunky Soup, Steak 'n Potato, $1.89 a can; Rice-a-Roni, $1.09 a box, and Maxwell House coffee, Columbian Supreme, $3.29 for an 11-ounce can. About 10 feet are devoted to ethnic foods, such as Goya beans, El Barrilito candy and Good-O Kola. Candy is also given strong visibility.
Though a small selection of paper and cleaning products is offered, the store doesn't include Kmart's "pantry shop," which sells household items, including plastic bags and tissues.
