Using on-pack order forms, consumers can send away for two of the six different posters. Each poster ordered requires three proofs of purchase. The offer will be promoted on 12 million Tombstone packages. No shipping or handling fees are required.

Couponing Reported Up 7% in Half

CHICAGO -- Brand marketers distributed 7% more cents-off coupons the first half of this year than during the same time period last year, according to Promotion Information Management here. From January through June of this year, 216 billion coupons were distributed through newspapers, magazines and direct mail, compared with 201.1 billion in 1993. That figure does not include in-store couponing activities. The health and beauty care industry was the most active, distributing 44.7 billion coupons so far this year, a 13.5% increase over last year. Prepared foods and cereals were the second and third most active, having increased coupon activity 3% and 8%, respectively.

Little Debbie Promotes 'Baseball'

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. -- McKee Foods Corp. signed an agreement with Turner Home Entertainment, Atlanta, to promote the release of "Baseball: A Film By Ken Burns," from PBS Home Video with on-pack offers on Little Debbie Snack Cakes. By mailing in two proofs of purchase from the specially marked Little Debbie packages and a receipt for the nine-tape home video, consumers will receive a $10 rebate. The promotion will be supported with shelf talkers and header cards. In addition, about 115 million Little Debbie packages nationwide will carry a mail-in offer for a set of 15 commemorative baseball cards for $3.99 plus $1 shipping and handling. The promotion runs through April 1995.

Pepsi Ties In With Hershey's, Tyco

SOMERS, N.Y. -- Pepsi-Cola Co. is featuring a 50 cents-off coupon for Hershey's candy on 2-liter bottles, 12-packs and 24-packs of Pepsi to celebrate its "Monster Smash" Halloween promotion. Pepsi and Doritos, manufactured by Frito-Lay, also a division of PepsiCo., will carry $20 worth of coupons for Tyco Toys. The promotion will be supported with point-of-sale material and on-pack graphics.

Polaroid Offering $5 Rebate

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Polaroid Corp. is offering a $5 rebate when consumers make a one-time purchase of any three packs of Polaroid's line of instant film. Value 3-packs of 600 HighDefinition film will carry an on-pack mail-in rebate offer. Other packages of film will simply carry a sticker notifying consumers about the promotion. Point-of-sale displays with counter cards and tear pads will be distributed to participating retailers. National network television advertising, a freestanding insert and radio commercials tagged for local retailers will be included in the promotion.

Contadina Delivers Coupons

GLENDALE, Calif. -- To promote its new refrigerated pastas and sauces, Contadina here delivered direct mail coupons worth $1 to 500,000 consumers at the end of September. Coupons worth $1 appear on 960,000 packages of Contadina refrigerated products. National print, broadcast and cable television and radio ads will be used, as well. Contadina has introduced three new pastas and one new sauce and improved a pasta and a sauce in its high-end Gold Line. The company has also taken a price reduction on its core line of refrigerated pastas and sauces to lure consumers away from dry pasta and jarred sauces.
