New Title in 'Shrunk' Series Due
e Shrunk Ourselves," the third movie in the successful series starring Rick Moranis, will be released direct to the video sell-through market on March 18.
It is the first live-action movie from Walt Disney Home Video to go direct to video. With a suggested retail price of $22.99 and a prebook date of Feb. 4, it will be distributed by Disney's video subsidiary, Buena Vista Home Video.
"Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves" will be supported by a pre- and post-street date marketing campaign that is scheduled to last four months.
Cross-promotional partners will be General Mills and Mattel. The title will be featured on over 2.5 million Kaboom, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and S'mores cereal boxes in March and April. Four free Mattel Hot Wheels cars will be offered with the video purchase.
Prepacks will be offered in 24-, 48- and 96-piece configurations. Additionally, "Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves" will be sold from 72- and 96-piece prepacks, mixed with a selection of $9.99 suggested retail Disney family movies.
NBA Issues Anniversary Video
NEW YORK -- NBA Video will issue a video commemorating the National Basketball Association's 50th anniversary on Feb. 4, timed for the NBA All-Star Weekend and backed by a large marketing campaign.
"NBA at 50, Golden Anniversary Collector's Edition" will have a suggested retail price of $19.98, a running time of about 120 minutes and an order date of Jan. 20. Hosted by Denzel Washington, it debuted on the TNT cable network on Nov. 13.
Marketing support will be highlighted by $250,000 in advertising and merchandising spending, tie-ins with licensees Mercury Records and Park Lane Press, a division of Random House, and promotions on http://www.NBA.com, the official World Wide Web site of the NBA. The title also will gain exposure through four broadcasts on Turner-affiliated networks in November and December and from a cross promotion with American Express.
Barney Explores the Senses
RICHARDSON, Texas -- Barney Home Video will release "Barney's Sense-Sational Day" on Jan. 14 at a suggested retail price of $14.95. Order date is Dec. 17. The 45-minute title includes programming never shown before on the "Barney & Friends" television program. In the new video, Barney explores sight, sound, smell, touch and taste.
"Barney's Sense-Sational Day" will be included in distributor Lyric Studios' "Buy A Pair -- Save A Pair" promotion. In it, consumers can save $2 with an instantly redeemable coupon when they buy the new video and the Jan. 14 Barney audio release, "Barney's Run, Jump, Skip and Sing." The audio title has a suggested retail price of $9.98 for cassette or $14.98 for compact disc. Merchandising units combining the two titles will be available, along with in-store signage.
