The two-tiered campaign, which Disney said will be the largest entertainment-based, quick-service restaurant promotion, includes the Masterpiece Collection-McDonald's Happy Meal Promotion and the Disney Masterpiece Collection Trivia Challenge.

The Trivial Challenge, which runs from March 29 through April 25, will feature 300 million trivia game cards on various McDonald's packages. A grand prize of $1 million will be awarded, along with other prizes, including cars, trips, books, entertainment centers and videos. The Happy Meal promotion, which runs from April 19 to May 16, will feature nine popular characters from Walt Disney Home Video's Masterpiece Collection in mini videocassette boxes with the purchase of a McDonald's Happy Meal. A different character will be offered each week. Masterpiece Collection titles include "Pocahontas," "The Aristocats," "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" and "The Lion King."

ABC, Hasbro Join on Kids' Tapes

STAMFORD, Conn. -- ABC Video and Hasbro, Pawtucket, R.I., will join together to create a line of live-action children's video programs based on Hasbro's Tonka Truck and Playskool Cool Tool lines. The half-hour programs will target 2- to 6-year-olds. The first titles will be released in the second half of 1996.

ABC Video will release the four-tape "Tales of the Serengeti" series on Feb. 20. Order cutoff is tomorrow. Priced at $19.95, the four 55-minute titles are "The Wanderer's Tale," "The Scavenger's Tale," "The Cheetah's Tale" and "The Lion's Tale."

A gift set with all four is priced at $59.95. The wildlife series aired on PBS in November and will be distributed by Paramount Home Video.

MCA to Issue Retrospective

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- MCA/Universal Home Video will release a two-hour retrospective, "The Universal Story," narrated by Richard Dreyfuss, March 12. Suggested retail price is $12.98 and orders close Feb. 27. The studio will offer eight titles in its February Low Price Collection, which streets Feb. 20 with orders closing Jan. 19. "Billy Madison," "Double Dragon," "Major Payne" and "Scarface" will be repriced to $19.98, while "Heart and Souls," "Shout," "Sneakers" and "The Last Starfighter" will be repriced to $14.98. MCA/Universal also will release "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar" to the rental market Feb. 20, with an order date of Feb. 6. The title grossed more than $36 million at the box office.

'Braveheart' Goes Rental in March

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Paramount Home Video will release "Braveheart" to the rental market March 12. The movie, which grossed $66 in its theatrical run, stars Mel Gibson, who also directed the film. There will be a 60-day pay-per-view window. Order cutoff date is Feb. 27. "Braveheart" has received four Golden Globe nominations. Also on March 12, Paramount will release the fourth title in Moonbeam Entertainment's "Josh Kirby ... Time Warrior!" series. "Eggs From 70 Million B.C." will be priced for the rental market with a Feb. 27 order date.
