a for One here is introducing new packaging that the company says increases shelf effect with consumers and delivers retailers a more efficient package size at both the shelf and the warehouse.

The new package design should make the product easier for consumers to find. It features a vibrant red color and a bold logo that "pops off the shelf." VDK Frozen Foods here, which owns the brand, says the new package allows for better use of shelf space and meets the Grocery Manufacturers of America pallet specifications. The new packaging hit retailers' shelves last month.

New Microwave Idea Backed

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The National Frozen Food Association, based here, has endorsed a new technology for microwave ovens that should be available to consumers a year from now.

Nevin Montgomery, president of the trade group, described the new microwave operating system, called True Cook Plus+ Microwave Technology Concept, as a software package that manufacturers can use in test kitchens when they develop their products.

The product's packaging would then carry a code of two to four digits that the consumer can program into microwave ovens at home, so that the product will cook exactly as it was designed to do. The system can compensate for all the variables of cooking, such as altitude and wattage, Montgomery said.

"We see it as an opportunity. It should be a stimulus to the industry," he said. A new development such as this means that, quite likely, consumers may replace their old microwave ovens with new ones containing the True Cook Plus+ feature, so the microwave oven manufacturers would also benefit.
