Wegmans Touts Chicken Meals
ans Food Markets here is touting whole meals built around its rotisserie chickens.
An in-store handout showed illustrations of cooked chickens and packaged side dishes. Two different size meals were featured. One came with a single rotisserie chicken, two side dishes and four potato rolls. The other one included two rotisserie chickens, three side dishes and eight potato rolls. Underneath the illustrations, the handout said, "Complete rotisserie chicken dinners. Visit our deli to pick up. Ready to eat. Great price. Nutritious." No prices were listed on the handout.
The flip side listed all Wegmans' stores with their telephone numbers. Officials at the 51-unit chain declined to comment on the handout/bag stuffer which it began using during the summer.
A deli source at a suburban unit here, however, told SN the dinner with one chicken is $9.99, and the one with two chickens is $14.99. The chickens alone, which weigh approximately two and a quarter pounds cooked, are $5.99 each. In addition to using the handouts, Wegmans is revving up its emphasis on whole meals via in-store signs and suggestive selling, a local observer here told SN.
Kason Offers New Gondola System
FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. -- Kason Market Products here has introduced an oak gondola system that features mix and match base ends, centers and bins, for flexibility.
Adjustable shelves can be set at different degrees, including a 30-degree slope which is designed for better product visibility, said the manufacturer.
Kason Market Products, a subsidiary of Shenandoah, Ga.-based Kason Industries, is a manufacturer of bakery, produce and floral fixtures for the supermarket industry.
Seasoned Turkey Breasts Available
BARRON, Wis. -- The Turkey Store here has introduced premium seasoned turkey breasts to its deli products line.
The turkey breasts are hand-rubbed with a blend of seasonings and spices, including Cajun style, cracked pepper, pastrami seasoned and oven roasted browned.
Each variety is made from whole breast lobes, according to the company.
Food-Service Group Formed
CHICAGO -- Viskase Corp. here, a supplier of cellulosic casings and specialty films, has announced the formation of a new food-service industry business group. The group will apply Viskase's casing, film and barrier bag technology to the food-service industry. Michael J. Silva, sales and business development manager for Viskase, will head the group.
