Chocolate Milk Sales Increase
ocolate milk increased 24% during the first-ever "Chocolate: The Wilder Side of Milk" promotion, co-sponsored by the Milk Processor Education Program here, and Dairy Management Inc., Rosemont, Ill. Nearly 2,400 retailers participated, including 584 different convenient store accounts. The six-week promotion tied feature ads and dairy-aisle displays of product to the availability of sweepstakes prizes that retailers could award to shoppers. Nearly half of the net incremental volume of 1.1 million gallons was sold in gallon sizes (48%), while half gallons and single serve garnered 44% and 8%, respectively, said officials.
Seafood Web Sites Merge
SEATTLE -- WorldCatch.com and Fishmonger.com, two seafood industry on-line marketplaces, have announced an agreement to merge. Effective immediately, the company will operate as WorldCatch and will continue to be based in Seattle, according to officials with both companies. Investors for both business-to-business Web sites said they will support the move with added venture capital, and representatives of the primary funding group will join the combined entity's board, they added. Jim Hilger, currently chief executive officer of Worldcatch, will assume the same responsibilities under the consolidated operation; Tom Poole, founder of Fishmonger, will be among the group taking a seat on the larger board of directors, said officials.
