e National Frozen Food Association here is lining up support for a Serving Up Perfection sweepstakes as part of next year's March is Frozen Food Month promotion.

The association said the following companies so far have committed to participate in the event: Mrs. Paul's, Swanson, Pepperidge Farm, Weight Watchers, Stouffer's, Red Baron, Minute Maid, Mrs. T's Pierogies, Sara Lee Bakery, Welch's, Ore-Ida, ConAgra and Rich's.

The sweepstakes will feature ads in McCall's and Family Circle magazines, with speedskater Bonnie Blair as the spokeswoman.

The manufacturers will also be sponsors of NFFA's new program, Cool Food, to be held in October 1995. That program, which will be conducted through the marketing division of Scholastic magazine, will educate children about the use of frozen foods. For more information, call (717) 657-9862.

Stouffer's Adds to Lean Line

SOLON, Ohio -- Stouffer's here has added nine Cafe Classics to its Lean Cuisine line.

Inspired by restaurant cuisine, the entrees feature food combinations, ingredients and cooking methods not commonly found in frozen dinners, according to a company statement.

The products, available this month, have a suggested retail price of $2.79. The line is being launched with the support of television and print advertising, coupons, in-store displays and trade promotions.

The Cafe Classics are Chicken Piccata, Chicken Mediterranean, Herb Roasted Chicken, Bow Tie Pasta and Chicken, Sirloin Beef Peppercorn, Chicken Carbonara, Calypso Chicken, Cheese Lasagna with Chicken Scaloppini and Grilled Chicken Salsa.

Low-Lactose Ice Cream Offered

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Dryer's/Edy's Grand Ice Cream here has introduced the first lactose-reduced ice cream on the market, as well as two new novelty items.

Dryer's/Edy's Grand Lactose Reduced Ice Cream contains 70% less lactose than regular ice cream, less than 1 gram of lactose per serving.

The product, packaged in one-quart containers, comes in three flavors and has a suggested retail price of $2.99.

The new novelties are Dryer's/Edy's Grand Cones and Dryer's/Edy's Frozen Yogurt Bars.

Grand Cones are crunchy cones filled with ice cream and topped with a layer of chocolate and rich mousse ice cream. Available in four flavors, they have a suggested retail price of $2.99 for the three-pack and $1.19 for singles.

The frozen yogurt bars are available in three flavors and have a suggested retail price of $2.99 for a package of four bars and $1.19 for single bars.

97% Fat-Free Ice Cream Unveiled

WOBURN, Mass. -- Paragon Ice Cream Co. here has introduced a 97% fat-free superpremium ice cream.

Marketed under the Paragon brand name, the product is made with skim milk, a small amount of cream, high-quality mix-ins and DairyLo, an all-natural milk protein developed by the Food Science Group of Pfizer Inc., the New York-based pharmaceutical manufacturer.

"We are doing a lot of in-store sampling, radio advertising and, in Boston and Chicago, a product kickoff with a 'try me free' full-page freestanding insert," said Paragon's president, Jay Gould.

Gould helped develop and launch Yoplait and Colombo frozen yogurt.

The new product is packaged in pints, with a suggested $2.69 retail, in seven flavors with names such as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Blueberry Bliss.
