Food Markets here is testing Alter Ego, a line of fruit-flavored beverages with natural botanicals, according to American Marketing Technology Group, the Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based manufacturer of the line.

Alter Ego is available in four varieties: Energy Booster, a lemon-flavored drink fortified with Siberian ginseng, Fo-Ti and guarana; Immunity Extender, a blend of cranberry, apple and raspberry flavors containing the herbs echinacea, astragalus and ginseng; Body Relaxer, a mix of passion fruit, mango and pineapple flavors featuring valerian and chamomile; and Smartness Enhancer, a blackberry and apple-flavored beverage with ginseng, Fo-Ti and ginkgo biloba.

Coca-Cola Set to Fuel NASCAR

ATLANTA -- Coca-Cola Co. here has entered into a five-year marketing agreement with the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing in which its Coca-Cola classic will become the "Official Soft Drink" of NASCAR racing as of Jan. 1.

Gold Castle wines Get Bronze

LARGO, Md. -- Three varieties of Gold Castle imported wines have been awarded bronze medals by the Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago at its recent World Wine Championships. The wines, imported by Kenco Importers here, are Gold Castle 1985 chardonnay, Gold Castle 1994 pinot noir and Gold Castle "Grand Reserve" 1982 cabernet sauvignon.

Parmalat Pours on the Juices

TEANECK, N.J. -- Parmalat here has introduced Santal Active Drink, a juice-drink alternative geared toward the health-conscious.

Initially launched in Italy, Santal is available in two flavors: orange-carrot and tropical juice/carrot. Both are said to contain significant amounts of vitamins C,E and A.

Santal is sold in ultra-high-temperature shelf-stable containers. The suggested retail for a 1-quart UHT container ranges from $1.39 to $1.49. It is also sold fresh in pint containers.
