The cards, which will be offered in denominations of $25, $50 and $100, will be available in 1,600 of Safeway's stores through December.

She said Safeway has the technology in place to activate the gift cards at the cash registers, where the products will be displayed.

"It's a terrific way to reach a lot of customers," White said. "Technology continues to change the way we can all do business together, and it's an added convenience for customers."

According to one report, Safeway will also merchandise gift cards from other retailers. Safeway confirmed the Nordstrom partnership but declined to comment further.

AURORA COMPLETES PURCHASE OF COPPS' IN-STORE PHARMACIES

MILWAUKEE -- Aurora Pharmacies here completed the acquisition of Copps Corp.'s 12 pharmacy locations earlier this month, according to David Busch, corporate vice president, administration, Roundy's, Pewaukee, Wis.

The terms of the agreement, which calls for Aurora to operate the pharmacies inside Copps' stores, were not disclosed.

"We create for the consumer the ability to profit from both our experise," Busch said.

Aurora now operates 36 pharmacies in Roundy's, which acquired Copps earlier this year.
