l Dairy here has introduced a new flavor of ice cream for the late summer/early fall season. The new Muddy Sneakers flavor consists of white chocolate premium ice cream, swirled with caramel and loaded with chocolate, caramel and peanut candies.

The ice cream is packed in a reusable, plastic half-gallon container that depicts a panorama of children enjoying country pastimes in bucolic Lancaster County.

Tyson Stuffed Chicken Expands

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- Based on a successful limited supermarket introduction, Tyson Foods here has decided to expand distribution of its line of restaurant-quality Tyson Stuffed Chicken Entrees to supermarkets across the country.

Originally developed for restaurant use, Tyson Stuffed Chicken Entrees were inspired by award-winning recipes from leading international chefs. Each package consists of two 6-ounce lightly breaded, premium-quality, boneless, skinless chicken breasts stuffed with gourmet ingredients. The varieties consist of Kiev, Cordon Bleu, Divan and Duxelles. The suggested retail price is $3.99.

Howard Johnson's Gets Makeover

PORTLAND, Maine -- For the first time since 1925, Howard Johnson's Ice Cream here has introduced new packaging, replacing the traditional bright orange and aqua blue containers.

The new quart- and pint-sized canisters feature colorful balloons surrounded by stars shining in the background, with the classic Howard Johnson's logo in the foreground.

"Our long tradition for quality ice cream making will now be complemented by newly designed packaging, depicting Howard Johnson's move towards the 21st century," said Lynn Spensley, sales manager at Deering Ice Cream Co., the producer of Howard Johnson's ice cream.

Freschetta Pizza Rolls Out

MARSHALL, Minn. -- Freschetta brand premium rising-crust pizza has been introduced here by Schwan's Sales Enterprises, also the makers of Tony's and Red Baron pizza.

Freschetta pizza is available in eight flavors, including new gourmet flavors like original-recipe BBQ chicken with bacon and vegetable primavera with creamy garlic sauce.

Made specifically to cook in a conventional oven, Freschetta cooks in about 26 minutes, about the same as for a traditional frozen brand.

Suggested retail price for a 12-inch pizza is $5 to $5.50. The product is currently available in most markets except the Northeast. National rollout is expected in early 1998.

AFFI Says Potato Pack Surged

BURLINGAME, Calif. -- The first six months of the current year's pack for frozen potatoes of all styles was 4.35 billion pounds, according to an AFFI survey released here. This is an increase of 200.6 million pounds, or 4.8%, when compared to the figures from last year during the same time period.

The figures, which combined "first pack" and "repack" data, represent 3.7 billion pounds of French fries, along with 614.5 million pounds of other potato products, including hash brown "taters," puffs, patties, cottage fries, whole peeled, diced and baked styles.

A preliminary survey of frozen spinach for the same period counted 135.2 million pounds for the 1997 spring pack.
