Two others were also elected: Robert Fletcher, director of retail trade and development for Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis, Mo.; and A. Dean Skadberg, director of industry affairs at Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, Ohio.

All three will serve three year terms.

FICAH, a charitable organization whose purpose is to teach the hungry to feed themselves, was established in 1985.

FMI Sponsors AsiaMart '95

WASHINGTON -- Food Marketing Institute here will hold its AsiaMart '95 exposition Oct. 18 to Oct. 20, at the Hong Kong Convention Centre.

A study sponsored by FMI and the Australian Supermarket Institute entitled "Supermarket Operations in the Pacific Rim 1994," will be presented at the conference.

There will be seminars on understanding Chinese consumers and tailoring businesses to Asian shoppers, as well as general sessions on store security and in-store marketing.

Tokutaro Masui, president of Kinokuniya Co., Japan, will give the welcome address. Masamichi Okuzumi, president of Okuzumi Management Institute Co., Japan, will give the keynote address. More than 200 companies are scheduled to participate.

FMI plans to hold the show, which specifically addresses the Asia/Pacific Rim region, every two years.

Blue Jean Ball Benefits FoodBank

HILLSIDE, N.J. -- "Under the Big Top" -- the Second Annual Blue Jean Ball to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey here -- will be held at the FoodBank warehouse here on Oct. 21.

This year's event will feature dinner, dancing and entertainment. Sponsorship packages are available that offer a combination of tickets, preferred seating, advertising and public recognition.

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey -- a member of Second Harvest, the National Food Bank Network -- is a private, non-profit organization that is the state's largest source of donated food and grocery items to charities.

Vons Gives Grants to Latino Groups

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Vons Cos. here has awarded $21,000 in grants to nine Latino student coalitions at southern California colleges and universities.

The student groups were recognized for encouraging their communities to get more involved in the political process.

The grants were made through Project VECINO, a program developed and sponsored by Vons to support programs nurturing political awareness and civic involvement among Latino students. VECINO is an acronym for Voter registration, Education, Citizenship, Immigration, Naturalization and Outreach. The grants, ranging from $1,000 to $3,000, went to student groups at Loyola Marymount University, Whittier College, the University of Southern California, California Polytechnic Institute in Pomona, and California State University campuses in Bakersfield, Fresno, San Bernardino, Long Beach and Los Angeles.

King Kullen Sponsors Tree Program

WESTBURY, N.Y. -- King Kullen Grocery Co. here has donated $5,000 to help launch the New York State Park's tree replenishment program.

The program enables state parks to utilize private contributions to purchase native trees, shrubs and beach grass to replenish the dying and diseased pine trees within Long Island state parks and along state parkways.
