ternational Fresh-cut Produce Association here has completed a three- to five-year plan that defines the organization's strategic direction, which focuses on enhancing its external role as the recognized voice of the fresh-cut produce industry and on increasing benefits for members, according to a statement.

As part of the plan, approved by the IFPA board of directors during a recent meeting in Dallas, the IFPA will hire a lobbyist to facilitate policy-related communications between members and government. It will also hire a technical specialist to develop a special reference section on the members-only page of the IFPA's Web site.

Dole Launches Salad Line

SALINAS, Calif. -- Dole Fresh Vegetables here has introduced a new line of prepared salad mixes called Great Restaurant Salads, a line of five varieties that includes ingredients not traditionally found in current packaged salads, such as fire-roasted peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, shredded cheeses and olives.

Packaged in 8.2- to 11.8-ounce bags, the salads will be introduced throughout the spring with a series of trial-generating coupons in key markets. Varieties include Classic Greek Marinade, Mediterranean Marinade, Triple Cheese Toss, All American Toss and Tomato & Mozzarella Medley. Both marinade items include a packet of dressing.

Broccoli Sprout Assurance Given

BALTIMORE -- The Brassica Sprout Group, based here, has sought to distance its broccoli-based sprout products from alfalfa sprouts, which are suspected of causing salmonella poisoning.

The company has issued a series of public assurances that its Fresh Alternatives-brand broccoli products, including its BroccoSprouts and broccoli-sprout blends, do not contain alfalfa sprouts. All the company's approved growers have been trained in Good Manufacturing Practices for food handlers and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point standards, according to the company.

The assurances follow a report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that profiled the possible salmonella-alfalfa sprout connection.
