ational Apple Institute here has expanded its annual National Apple Month promotion to include a longer promotional contest and increased prize money.

The institute sponsors the National Apple Month, which is held in October. This year the window for promotional contests, previously limited to October, has been increased to include September, October and November. Also, total cash prizes have increased from $6,600 to $10,000. "We are hopeful retailers will see the benefits of maintaining their expanded apple displays through each of the three months," said Denise Rogers, manager of the National Apple Month program.

According to the institute, the 2,600 retailers who participated in the promotion last year increased apple sales 29% during their promotional events. The institute expects sales levels to increase even more for retailers who maintain displays throughout the three-month window.
