MGM to Reprice 'Birdcage'

- MGM Home Entertainment will reprice the $120 million-earning box office hit "The Birdcage," starring Robin Williams, on March 25 to the sell-through price of $19.98.

The title will be supported by a consumer promotion offering a $5 mail-in rebate with the purchase of "The Bird Cage" and "Get Shorty."

MGM also will reprice five titles in its Screen Epics Collection to $24.98 on March 4. They are: "New York, New York," "Shoes of the Fisherman," "Ryan's Daughter," "Raintree County" and "Grand Prix."

Three titles will be added to MGM's Family Treasures Collection on March 18, priced at $14.95: "My Summer Story," "Little Monsters" and "A Cry in the Wild."

Universal Plans Restored 'Vertigo'

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- Universal Studios Home Video will release a restored and remastered edition of the Alfred Hitchcock classic "Vertigo" on March 25 at a suggested retail price of $19.98. Order date is March 10. The video will be packaged in a special sleeve featuring the original movie poster.

"Vertigo" will be promoted with a national sweepstakes and a rebate offer with a Discover card. The sweepstakes will offer a trip to San Francisco for two, and will be advertised in Vanity Fair, Entertainment Weekly, Movieline, Premiere, and other periodicals.

Consumers who purchase "Vertigo" with a Discover card will earn a $5 mail-in rebate. The rebate forms will be included in the packages, and promoted on-pack and with merchandiser header cards.

Also, Universal has set the video release of "The Chamber," a movie based on a John Grisham novel, for March 25, with a 45-day pay-per-view window. Order date for the rental title is March 10. Promotional support will include a national radio campaign and other consumer advertising. With the purchase of five units, a shirt featuring the logo from the current theatrical release "Fierce Creatures" will be offered.
