ite Brands here is applying its marketing force to introduce consumers to new Star Wars-themed fruit snacks.

Just in time for the summer season, Star Wars Episode One snacks come in three varieties: Glitter Roll Galactic Watermelon Flavor, Fruit Snacks Assorted Flavors and Mega-Duals Galactic Berry.

The fruit snacks hit stores nationwide last month, to coincide with the release of "The Phantom Menace." All three varieties contain information about the movie on the box side panels. They are all made with real fruit and contain vitamins C, E and beta carotene. Suggested retail price for an eight-pack box is $2.89.

M&M/Mars Adds to Starbursts

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- M&M/Mars here has introduced a disc-shaped hard candy under the Starburst brand to appeal to consumers between the ages of 12 and 17.

The product is available in 10 flavors.

The original pack of Starburst hard candy comes in cherry, lemon, green apple, orange and strawberry, in three sizes: 1.6 ounces, 8 ounces and 16 ounces. The tropical pack contains tropical punch, kiwi strawberry, mango melon, strawberry banana and watermelon flavors and is available only in a 16-ounce pack.

Sweet & Low Line Expanded

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. -- Simply Lite Foods Corp. here is expanding its Sweet & Low confectionery line with single-serving sizes of its five chocolate candies.

The new single serve comes in five varieties -- chocolatey wafer bars, peanut butter wafer bars, crispy bits, peanut bits and patteez. Suggested retail price for one pack of single-serve candies is 99 cents. The candy is now available nationwide.

"We believe the single servings will stimulate trial and purchase among a much larger consumer base," said Sal Asaro, president of Simply Lite.

Golightly Has New Packaging

HILLSIDE, N.J. -- Golightly Candy Co. here has put three of its sugar-free, reduced-calorie hard candies into stand-up boxes.

Each of the three flavors, lemon iced tea, coffee and chocolate mint, is available in upscale 4-ounce boxes that are streamlined with colorful graphics and unique designs. Each box contains the words "Fat Free" in big letters, and "A Fat Free Food" is written on the bottom.

All three varieties contain 25% fewer calories than regular hard candy, and that fact is written on the front of the box. Suggested retail price of one box is $1.99.

Chocolate for the Millennium

SEATTLE -- Seattle Chocolate Co. here has announced a launch of Chocolates for the New Millennium, a line of special gift boxes featuring new champagne-flavored truffles, mint truffles, and other assorted flavors.

Chocolates for the New Millennium will be packaged in three 8-ounce gift boxes that feature festive decorations, such as shooting stars and confetti. The boxes will also include a 2000! logo.

The candies are made with European milk and dark chocolate and all-natural flavoring. Suggested retail price is $9.99 or more.
