Report to Go Beyond ECR

nonfood report, to be issued at the Food Marketing Institute's General Merchandise and Health and Beauty Care Conference in St. Louis Sept. 25, will feature broader concepts that go beyond the Efficient Consumer Response initiative.

The study, being sponsored by American Greetings here in conjunction with an FMI-endorsed nine-member retailer research council, will present findings on the impact of nonfood from integrated marketing campaigns, signs, promotions and cross-merchandising.

"As there are so many studies now under way that focus on ECR, it seemed a moot point to do one more, and it is the reason for broadening the report's scope beyond ECR," a council official said.

Other topics in the study will include building nonfood traffic at supermarkets, the vendors' role in various categories and the effectiveness of cross-merchandising to boost nonfood sales. In addition, best practices in nonfood marketing of the top industry retailers, including those from other classes of trade, will be featured in a survey.
