Flower Group Forecasts Colors

GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- Eucalyptus, mature asparagus and sunflowers evoke the trendy colors for flowers and foliage this year, according to the California Cut Flower Commission here. Keeping up with current trends is important for floral retailers, since color is the No. 1 factor in a consumer's decision to purchase flowers, the commission said.

One of the big color trends will be toward "gray moss," a cool and complex color. Other trendy colors will be "pebble," a warm neutral with hints of brown and gray; "cornmeal," a warm, soft yellow with sunny overtones; "H-Blue-O," the shade of clear, clean Caribbean water; "purple haze," purple layered with smoky tones; and "Smithsonian," a weathered brick that combines yellow, orange and red.
