'Evita' in Buena Vista Lead

Vista Home Video's August rental release slate will be highlighted by "Evita," starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas. The title, which earned $50 million at the box office, won three Golden Globe awards and one Oscar, and will street Aug. 5, prebooking July 22.

The title will be available in both regular and widescreen versions, with different box art to identify them for customers. The "Evita" soundtrack album has gone double platinum, and its standee will be shared with "The English Patient."

Also releasing Aug. 5 will be "That Darn Cat," starring Christina Ricci and Doug E. Doug. It has a 50-day pay-per-view window.

Streeting Aug. 12 will be "Everyone Says I Love You" and "Shadow Conspiracy." Both prebook July 22. "Everyone Says I Love You" is directed by Woody Allen, and stars Allen. It earned $10 million at the box office and has a 60-day PPV window. "Shadow Conspiracy" has a 90-day PPV window.

CBS Offers Tiger Woods Video

NEW YORK -- CBS Video here has released "Tiger Woods: Son, Hero and Champion," which looks at the personal and professional life of the young golf star, including his recent record-setting performance at the Masters. Suggested retail price is $14.98.

Seven Keys to Universal 'Appeal'

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- Seven titles will highlight Universal Appeal III, a rental promotion from Universal Studios Home Video here that will run from Aug. 19 to Oct. 7. The titles are: "Dante's Peak," "The Last Time I Committed Suicide," "McHale's Navy," "The Assassination File," "Commandments," "That Old Feeling" and "Any Place But Home."

Part of the marketing support for the program is a retailer incentive of a rolling garment bag imprinted with the new Universal logo, valued at $200. To get it, retailers must purchase 12 units of "Dante's Peak," two units of "The Last Time I Committed Suicide," four units of "McHale's Navy," two units of "Commandments," six units of "That Old Feeling" and one unit of either "Any Place But Home" or "The Assassination File."

"Dante's Peak" streets Aug. 19, with orders closing Aug. 4 and a 45 day pay-per-view window. "The Last Time I Committed Suicide" streets Aug. 26, with orders closing Aug. 11 and a 90-day PPV window.

"McHale's Navy" and "The Assassination File" street Sept. 9, with orders closing Aug. 25, and a 45-day PPV window. "Commandments" streets Sept. 23, with orders closing Sept. 8 and a 45-day PPV window. "That Old Feeling" and "Any Place But Home" street Oct. 7, with orders closing Sept. 22 and a 45-day PPV window.

'Cats Don't Dance' Release Set

BURBANK, Calif. -- Warner Home Video here will release "Cats Don't Dance," an animated feature with the voices of Scott Bakula and Jasmine Guy, Aug. 19, at a suggested retail price of $22.96, with a pre-order date of July 22. The title was critically acclaimed but only released theatrically on a limited basis. It features songs written by Randy Newman and performed by Natalie Cole.

A&E Launches Audio Books

NEW YORK -- A&E Television Networks here has launched a line of audio books to go along with its Biography video line. The initial four titles are "Harry S. Truman," "Jesus," "Patton" and "Nostradamus." Suggested retail price is $9.95 for the programs, which range from 45 to 90 minutes.

In the Biography video line, A&E Home Video will release "Mary of Nazareth: A Mother's Life" Aug. 26 at a suggested retail price of $19.95, with a prebook date of Aug. 5. Also Aug. 26, A&E will release P.G. Wodehouse's "More Jeeves & Wooster," a six-video collector's set of the comedy classics for $79.95.
